Lyden af regn (The Sound of Rain) is a soundscape of mild summer rain installed outdoors at Frederiksbjerg in Aarhus.
Marie Markman’s poetic sound installation delves into the relationship between perception and memory, and how the activation of one sense can evoke a bodily reaction from others.

“I remember a situation from my childhood, when I experienced a temporal shift, from the moment I registered the sound of rain, to the moment when the rain actually touched my skin. It must have lasted less than a millisecond. Still, it seems to me that the sound of rain activated the feeling of rain on the skin more strongly, than when the rain actually hit – and sensorially: that the absence of rain activated the feeling of rain more strongly than the rain itself.”
With Lyden af regn (The Sound of Rain), passers-by are invited to a sensuous, collective sound experience of mild summer rain in the street. Lyden af regn has been realized in collaboration with Pappagallo and is supported by Kulturudviklingspuljen / Aarhus Kommune.
